No one on board

A lifeboat from a cargo ship has washed up on an East Devon beach.

It was discovered on the pebbles at Sidmouth on Sunday morning, after breaking from its place on the ship last week. It wasn't being used in an emergency at the time, and no one was on board.

Coastguards had been tracking the vessel since, but weren't sure where it was going to make landfall.

A rescue team from Beer helped secure the lifeboat and safely dispose of its flares until it was recovered with the help of a tractor and team from Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat.

The coastguard says the police, the Receiver of Wreck and the Environment Agency have been made aware
