The scheme to reduce all-night street lighting in the city has moved into its next phase.
Around 650 streetlights in the Duryard and Pennsylvania areas were switched off at half past midnight, until 5.30am.
However many of the main routes, including those used by University students, remained lit.
The county council says the initiative is proving a success in reducing energy bills and carbon emissions.
