Man arrested on suspicion of child abduction

Children located in North Devon

A man has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction, following an extensive police search and appeal overnight to locate a car and the people inside of it.

Devon and Cornwall Police launched an overnight hunt, including the police helicopter, saying they were concerned for the welfare of the people inside the vehicle.

The car had a man, from West Yorkshire and two children, who were known to eachother inside.

It was last seen travelling along the Devon and Cornwall border, yesterday [Tuesday 20 May] and was last seen travelling through Kilkhampton.

The black car was located in North Devon and the two juniors  have been safeguarded with their family who will receive on going police support.

The Senior Investigating Officer who led the investigation, DCI Steve Fleetwood has thanked the public for their positve reaction to the initial media appeal, which he said “assisted in bringing this incident to a safe resolution”.
