When the police arrive, just after 10 pm he was on the right side of the railings, but when an office walked towards him, he jumped off the bridge and fell 10 metre onto the westbound A38 carriageway below, where he was struck by a number of passing vehicles and subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics.
The road was closed and a forensic examination of the scene took place.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101 quoting log number 1228 07/07/2018.
