Man fighting for life after being stabbed in Exeter

Suspect being questioned about attempted murder

A man in his twenties is fighting for his life after being attacked the Exwick area of Exeter on Thursday.

He was found critically injured near the River Exe off Station Road, having received what police describe as a number of puncture wounds.

Initially he was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, but later transferred to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

A man who is also in his twenties from Exeter is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detective inspector Dave Ireland said: “We are appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on 12 June to please contact us.

“The public will see an increased police presence in the area and we would encourage anyone with information or concerns to speak with officers or to contact us by calling 101.”

A scene guard is in place while police carry out further searches and enquiries.
