20 years of teeing off for a cause
A memorial golf day has raised £250,000 in its 20 years, honouring a founding fundraiser of local charity Hospicecare.
Marie helped raise the first funds to build the hospice back in the 1980s. She was a keen supporter of the charity for many years but sadly, was later diagnosed with terminal cancer and received end-of-life care.
50 teams of four golfers teed off on July 3rd for the annual event, now recognised as one of Exeter's premier golf tournaments.
Several of the original competitors still play in the competition, including some of Marie's family.
After the game, they enjoyed a meal at the clubhouse and had a chance to win raffle prizes.
Janet Milford has helped run the events for many years, she says “This golf day is always special for Marine’s family and the hospice. Marie would be proud of the money raised, which shows her vision and dedication to helping others.”
“It’s grown from simple beginnings to include many businesses, teams, and sponsors, and it remains a fun day with a serious message about supporting the hospice's work in the community.”
