Developers have put forward proposals for a multi-million pound project near Tiverton. It could lead to the creation of a designer outlet village, a cinema, hotel, regional visitor centre, employment space and housing... but so far the plans are at a very early stage.
The developers say the proposals for the site near Junction 27 of the M5 could provide a unique retail and leisure destination for visitors and residents alike - and create more than three thousand jobs.
But Mid Devon district council is stressing that the land would have to be allocated for development as part of its Local Plan before any application can be made.
It says any such allocations must be 'exceptional' and deliver the right kind of jobs and economic opportunties.
An informal consultation will be published in February, enabling the public to give their views on the scheme.
