Tackling issues that matter to the community

A Neighbourhood policing team, based in Plymouth, carried out a city-wide day of action, focusing on community concerns including anti-social behaviour, retail crime, drug offences, and road safety.

High-visibility patrols were conducted in hotspot areas like, The Barbican, Drake Circus shopping centre, and the Hoe.

A roads policing operation in the Barbican saw officers advising drivers on how to be safer, including speed limits and mobile phone use.

One person was arrested for drug driving and various traffic offences. Motorists also saw a demonstration on New George Street highlighting safe passing distances for cyclists.

Several arrests were made throughout the day, including individuals wanted for burglary, assault, and drug-related offences. Officers also identified a vulnerable person potentially linked to drug activity, who will now receive support.

A mobile CCTV unit supported operations in the city centre, and Plymouth police cadets partnered with Trading Standards for a test purchase operation on vaping products. Out of 16 shops visited, only one sold to a 15-year-old cadet, breaching age restriction laws.

Sergeant Steve Dykes said the day aimed to show the community that their concerns are being heard: “We’re committed to making a difference with our partners and improving quality of life in the city.”

Councillor Sally Haydon praised the initiative, saying: “Partnership working is key to tackling anti-social behaviour and making Plymouth safer for everyone.”
