Mystery of early-morning blaze
Fire crews from Paignton and Torquay put out a fire at a shop in Gerston Street, Paignton in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They were called just after 3.30am and discovered the blaze outside the property, where an awning and rubbish was on fire.
The shop was only affected by smoke damage, and the incident has been handed over to police for further investigation.
Earlier, fire crews from the same stations attended an oven fire at a home in McKay Avenue, Torquay. By the time they reached the property, the fire was out, but the contents in the oven were destroyed, and 10 per cent of the ground floor of the building affected too.
