Police station fire is second this week

It's being treated as arson

Exeter's former police station on Heavitree Road has been set on fire for the second time in a matter of days.

Crews were called to another blaze on Thursday night, following an earlier one on Monday. Both are being treated as arson.

The cop shop called in 2020 after a new one opened at Middlemoor, next to Devon and Cornwall's police headquarters.

As the Heavitree Road building is derelict, the fire service hasn't assessed the damage in percentage terms, which is usual.

A Devon and Somerset Fire Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.42pm on 20 November following reports of smoke at a disused building on Heavitree Road in Exeter. Three appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor fire stations attended.

"Crews located a fire contained to one room of the building, which was extinguished using two hose reel jets, a safety jet, and breathing apparatus.

"A second fire was located in a different part of the building which was also extinguished.
