Two top comics to headline

Famous faces and acclaimed writers have descended on Budleigh for the town's annual Literary Festival.

This year's event (17th - 21st September) promises a packed programme of workshops, talks and performances from international bestselling novelists to leading journalists and historians.

Later today, the Earl of Devon, Charlie Courtenay, will share what it's like living in Powderham Castle near Exeter, talking about its 700-year history and its important connection to his family.

Other highlights include talks from comics Alan Davies and Al Murray, along with Gavin Stacey star Larry Lamb and broadcaster and film critic Mark Kermode.

The festival features a range of family-friendly events and low-cost activities, including a treasure hunt, a mini-marquee with creative activities, a pop-up bookshop, and free musical entertainment every evening.

Sue Briggs, the chair of the event, says, 'It's all about celebrating the joy of stories in all their forms, from world-class writers to aspiring new voices, and thoughtful debate to creative fun for families.

We're proud to offer something for everyone, and with many events sold out or close to selling out, we'd encourage people to get their tickets and join us.'"

Tickets for many authors have already sold out, and remaining events are filling up quickly.
