An official travellers site could be built close to the Cranbrook development near Exeter.
The area is in East Devon and the district council is identifying the locations for 22 new pitches in the next five years.
Councillor Andrew Moulding says the area near the new town is already popular with travellers - and the developers of Cranbrook have agreed to accommodate provision within the proposed expansion areas.
