It's been revealed that 10 inmates of Exeter prison died last year, and four of those deaths were suicides. Those are among the highest numbers in the country and have provoked alarm from the Howard League for Penal Reform.
It's called for urgent Government action to tackle overcrowding and staff shortages, along with wider measures to prevent people with addictions or mental health problems committing crimes and ending up behind bars, where they are at high risk of self-harm and suicide.
