The bird died after being attacked by a dog
A dog owner has been prosecuted after his dog, which was off its lead, attacked and killed one of the famous black swans in Dawlish.
The incident happened in April this year when Mr Ross Norman, of Dawlish, was walking his dog on The Lawns in the town. There is a by-law to keep dogs on leads in the area.
Magistrates issued Mr Norman the maximum penalty of £500, plus awarded Dawlish Town Council full costs of £473.81.
The Teignmouth and Dawlish Neighbourhood Police said on Facebook: "This is a fantastic result to be awarded the maximum amount of fine and shows how serious the Magistrates considered this matter to be. Thank you to all those who assisted in the prosecution."
