Police in Exeter are setting up their own cadet schemes, in schools which don't have an army cadet force.
It will offer 13 to 16 year olds the chance to take part in exciting and challenging activities, in much the same way as the military training.
The first troupe has been set up at Isca college and there are plans to extend it to other comprehensives.
The initiative is supported by the city council and education authorities.
