The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is taking part in a trial to try out new socks and sleeves, which have been designed to protect thinning skin on the arms and legs and prevent skin tears.
The RD&E has been given a quarter of a million pounds to carry out the pilot study of the products - invented by a man in Woodbury.
A number of GPs across the South West have also taken part.
It's estimated if the trial is successful and rolled out nationwide, it could save the NHS at least 1-billion pounds a year.
