The amount of sick leave being taken by police in Devon and Cornwall is on the rise because of increasing levels of stress.
Janice Adam, the chair of Devon and Cornwall's Police Federation, believes there is a bigger demand on officers because of higher crime rates, reduced funding and bigger workloads.
She is calling on the Government to invest in the police service before it is too late.
According to Mrs Adam, Devon and Cornwall has higher levels of stress because officers have to cover a large rural area, meaning that many have to work alone which increases feelings of stress and poses a bigger danger.
She says it a worrying situation that has been getting worse over recent years.
