Royal Clarence Hotel redevelopment to start

Work to start on historic city centre building

Work will finally being on the redevelopment of Exeter's Royal Clarence Hotel, after fire destroyed the historic building nearly a decade ago.

The £17 million pound project will begin in the New Year after new owners Nooko purchased the building earlier this year.

Permission was granted in 2022 for 25 new high end apartments on the site, most with views across the green to the cathedral with prices up to £1 million pounds.

The redevelopment will also include ‘high end’ food and drink outlets.

More than 1,000 firefighters tackled the blaze back in 2016 and developers are planning to keep some of the burnt timbers as a ‘visible, poignant connection’ between the old and the new.
