A survey by the Alzheimers Society has found that nearly three quarters of people in the south west would be afraid to go and live in a care home.
The study also found that fewer than half of the family members and carers questioned thought their loved ones' quality of life was good in their care home.
The charity says the report, titled Low Expectations, highlights the need for government and local authorities to work together, to raise standards.
