Avocet Line affected on busy sports afternoon
Rail passengers between Exmouth and Exeter were advised to catch the bus on Saturday afternoon after trespassers were reported on the line near Exeter Central.
GWR trains were subject to delays, cancellations or revisions, according to National Rail Enquiries, and for a while were unable to run between Exeter St Davids and Exmouth on the track known as the Avocet Line.
It came on a busy day for local sport, with both Exeter City FC and Exeter Chiefs playing at home. Both grounds are on that line; St James Park in the case of the football, and either Digby & Sowton, or Newcourt, depending whether passengers are getting on or off for Sandy Park (GWR get ratty with passengers they now call customers if they try to use a stop of their own choice).
Trains started to get back to normal after 6pm.
