Dramatic rescue in small hours
Police, fire crew and paramedics have rescued a woman from Bideford quay as she became stuck in the mud just after 2am on Sunday morning.
Whilst two fire appliances from the town and a special rescue team from Barnstaple rushed to the scene, news came that the woman's head was being held above water by someone on a boat. Low tide at Bideford was just before midnight, and with high tide due at around 6.30am, the water was rising.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue lit the area, while the specialist rescue team, in dry suits, made their way to the casualty, and brought her back across the mudflats to the quay.
She was back on dry land by about 3am, and left in the care of paramedics.
