City release statement on Matt Taylor move

Negotiations with Rotherham Untied are ongoing

After days of speculation over a possible move for Matt Taylor to Rotherham United, a statement has been released by Exeter City Supporters' Trust.

The trust, which is the democratic organisation that owns the majority shareholding in the club, released the statement from its chairman, Nick Hawker.

It reads: "Firstly, we’d like to thank our fans for their patience and explain a little about the events of the last few days regarding manager Matt Taylor.

"Following the approach made to us from Rotherham United last week, we agreed for Matt to speak to them. He was subsequently offered the position.

"From this point both club’s representatives began discussions and negotiations are currently ongoing. It is important to note that these negotiations are entirely amicable, although they are protracted. It is for this reason that we have been unable to make an official announcement.

"Throughout this period the club has been preparing for tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy match against Southampton under-21s at St James Park and for the away game at Barnsley on Saturday. These games will be in the capable and experienced hands of under-18s coach Kevin Nicholson and first team coach and lead professional development phase (PDP) coach Jon Hill. Kevin and Jon will be managing the squad during this interim period."
