Chiefs' Macdonald is England's player of the match

USA international hosted at Sandy Park

In a friendly ahead of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand this autumn, England's Red Roses' started full of confidence and looking to seal their 24th successive win against the USA.

As the two national anthems blasted around Sandy Park, the atmosphere was electric.

The Red Roses were dominant from the start, thanks to an early try by scrum-half Natasha Hunt, but the conversion was just off the mark.

Another try came just two minutes later. Winger Jess Breach read the USA attack with an outstanding interception and with remarkable pace she sprinted half the pitch to score, with captain Emily Scarratt converting. But a TMO check ruled that England player Ellie Kildunne had her hand under the ball, ruling the try out, but the USA's Hallie Taufoou was given a yellow card for going in at the side.

Off the back of a driving maul, England scored try number three from Amy Cokayne, with  Emily Scarratt converting.

Exeter Chiefs winger Claudia Macdonald then scored an international try at her home ground, Sandy Park.

Next Jess Breach got her second and with another conversion, it was 33-0 to England at half-time.

Soon into the second half, Macdonald got her second try, with an excellent step to make sure she was out of trouble to score.

It wasn't long before the driving maul from England worked again, with Amy Cokayne scoring as they surged forward.

USA fans finally had something to cheer as Exeter Chiefs player Hope Rogers managed to score a well-deserved try for the team, converted by Chiefs' teammate Gabby Cantora.

Exeter didn't have it their own way for a lengthy period towards the end of the match, and England substitute Helene Rowland gave away a penalty try and received a yellow card.

But the Red Roses' unsteady period ended with another England try. Ellie Killdunne sprinted onto the ball;  her run unstoppable as her try put England past the 50-point mark.

It ended England 52 USA 14 USA, with Red Roses and Chiefs' player Claudia Macdonald awarded player of the match.
