Investigation into canal wall breaching

People living near the Grand Western Canal are being asked for their help in establishing what led up to the breach of its walls during last month's flooding.

The dramatic breach on November 21st  led to two miles of canal draining out near Halbeton, with water flooding out into the surrounding fields.

Devon county council, the district council and the environment agency are hosting this afternoon's meeting at Halbeton village hall.

They're particularly interested to hear whether anyone noticed higher than usual water levels anywhere along the canal, or anything else unusual in the days leading up to the incident.

The meeting takes place from 4pm till 8pm today.
