Taylor wants more signings as transfer deadline looms

Matt Taylor wants new players

He'll be "bruised" if no one comes

After a goalless draw in their league one fixture against Accrington Stanley last Saturday, Exeter City will host last season’s League One play-off side MK Dons.

Manager Matt Taylor is expecting the game will be “the best League One can offer” as he hopes for “one of our more traditional and trademark home displays”.

He believes “defensively we have looked strong” and because of their encouraging defensive performances, Taylor is hoping for a clean sheet against them.

Ahead of the game, Taylor said: “MK Dons are a fantastic footballing team...Their results this season have been impressive, but we are full of confidence for this match.”

City are ninth in the league with eight points, but with only one point fewer, MK Dons are four places below.

If there's any connection between the sides, it comes through former City manager Paul Tisdale, who left for Milton Keynes after 10 years at St James Park.

Unlike his stint at Exeter, he didn't last long.

Now, with transfer deadline day fast approaching, Matt wants more signings before the Thursday night deadline in order to “stay in this league and to achieve that we need more players in this group”.

He still needs “two or three more players,” he says, but he knows “he can’t do anything” and is not that frustrated with the lack of signings because  the trust and club are giving him everything they say they can.

But he does warn “he will be hurt and bruised if we were to make no more signings.”

He continued: “If we have the budget available...I would expect us to keep moving towards our targets but it’s always a domino effect. We want to do what’s right for the club and we will continue looking until the window closes.”

With just hours before deadline, Taylor hasn’t ruled out anyone leaving the club.

“There is certainly interest in one or two of our young players and there could potentially be a quite busy end to the window” he said.
