Totnes MP backs Chancellor on Brexit

Dr Sarah Wollaston believes it's right to warn of economic dangers

A Devon MP is  backing Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, who's come under attack for warning that a no-deal Brexit could damage the economy.

Dr Sarah Wollaston, who represents Totnes, is a remainer who's also joined Exeter's Ben Bradshaw in campaigning for a soft-Brexit.

Earlier this month, Dr Wollaston sopke at a rally to call for a People's Vote on the final Brexit agreement, if there is one.

She says it was right of the chancellor to point out the economic impact if the UK drops out of Europe without a deal.

Dr Wollaston has also appealed to "hard Brexit fundamentalists" to get out and speak to small and medium-sized businesses. She says: "Those I've visited with EU links tell me loud and clear about the disastrous impact of the complexity and cost of hard Brexit" which is confirmed in the technical advice papers the government published on Friday.
