"Towering striker" Harry Smith signs for City

He joins from Leyton Orient

Just hours after saying he'll be "bruised" if Exeter City don't make any new signings before the transfer deadline expires on Thursday night, the club put pen to paper on a deal.

What they describe as a "towering striker " Harry Smith, on a season long loan from League Two's Leyton Orient.

Smith, who scored 15 goals for his club last season in all competitions, stands at 6ft 5 inches tall and has made 52 appearances for the London side, including seven this season.

The 27-year-old becomes Matt Taylor’s fourth summer signing.

As a youngster, Smith began his career with Brentford, Chelsea and Gillingham, as well as spells with Sevenoaks Town and Sittingbourne.

But it was at Folkestone Invicta where he caught the eye of EFL clubs. Millwall signed the striker in 2016 before loaning him out to Swindon, where he made 14 appearances, scoring three.

In 2018, Smith joined Macclesfield Town on a one year deal, scoring ten, before signing for Northampton on a three year deal in July 2019. He netted a total of 11 for the Cobblers and after a brief loan spell at Motherwell, joined Orient last summer.

Smith will link up with his new team mates on Friday ahead of the home match against MK Dons on Saturday.

The club hasn't issued a photo for free press use as yet.
