Unions say employers are denying people job security

Unions are hitting out at companies in Devon which employ people on zero-hours contracts or temporary placements.

Unite and UNISON say nearly eight per cent of workers in Exeter are on temporary contracts, with a slightly higher proportion in Teignbridge.

The rate is lower in other parts of  Devon.

The unions say temporary jobs suit some people, but many who would prefer the security of a permanent contract are being denied one by their employers.
