Drew Davey jailed for 10 years

A Barnstaple man who violently assaulted three strangers in Westward Ho! has received a 15-year sentence.

Drew Davey, aged 26, of Greenbank Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of causing actual bodily harm on 7th May at Exeter Crown Court.

Davey received a reduced sentence for an early guilty plea and will serve ten years with three years on license as a dangerous offender.

The court heard how Davey had been out drinking before arguing with his girlfriend. In the early hours of Wednesday 16 August 2023, he entered a property at random on Gold Links Road and attacked three of its residents in an aggressive and sustained assault.

He randomly attacked three residents after drinking, injuring them with a broom handle.

Police arrived quickly, providing first aid to the victims who were hospitalised.

Davey was arrested near the scene.

DS John Crewe, the Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, said “The sentence aims to provide a sense of justice for the victims and their families while sending a message that violent behaviour will not be tolerated.”
