Concern over loss of trees from 'woodland village'

There are calls for more protection for trees hundreds of years old in an area of Ottery St Mary, to stop them being destroyed by developers.

So far six oak trees in the gardens of houses in West Hill have been removed by developers who bought the properties to build on the land.

Ward councillor Claire Wright is working to get more tree preservation orders imposed to stop it happening.

She says West Hill is known as a 'woodland village' and the removal of much-loved trees is taking away its character.
