The first tournament of the GBWR Allied Mobility WR5s gets underway on Saturday. The action takes place in the Plymouth Life Centre, home to Westcountry Hawks Wheelchair Rugby Club. On Saturday they’ll face local rivals Endeavour Punishers. They’ll also be facing Saracens, plus two Welsh sides: Dragons from Pontypool and RGC from North Wales.

Wheelchair Rugby 5s or WR5s, is open to anyone with a permanent physical disability or impairment that prevents them from playing running rugby.

The Hawks are led by Player/Coach Bruno Carrico – a full GB International in the original Paralympic discipline of the sport. Their squad includes actor Ed Larkin who last year became the first actor in a wheelchair to lead a West End play. He played Henry Fraser in the musical The Big Little Things. Also lining up for the Hawks is GB Invictus captain Stephen ‘Hoops’ Hooper.

The Hawks have recently begun training sessions in Exeter with several new players already recruited, one of whom is former Royal Marine and para-rower Ray Lowrie.
Games get underway at 9am and run until 4pm on Saturday & Sunday. Entrance for spectators is free.
