Lockdown delay, but work going well

Construction at Exmouth's new Watersport centre, to be known as Sideshore, is progressing again. External roof coverings and insulation are close to completion which will be followed by solar panel installation. Other sustainable energy will come from a ground source heat pump. Boreholes have already been drilled for that.

What they're calling 'retail pods' - small units at the side of the main centre - have their walls up now.

The development has been years in the planning, with delays and added expense after a group called Save Exmouth Seafront protested about loss of long-standing amenities.

The £3 million centre is being developed by Grenadier, an Exeter company that specialises in sustainable construction. It's owned by Oxygen House, an Exeter investment business which in turn is behind Exeter City Futures, the group working on projects to make the city net carbon neutral and congestion free by 2020.
