Jack Aitchison joins Grecians

Exeter City have announced Scottish attacker Jack Aitchison as their second signing of the summer.

The 23-year-old joins on a two-year contract and links up with the Grecians following his release from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.

Aitchison is a product of the Celtic youth system and in May 2016 became the youngest ever player to represent the Bhoys in a competitive match aged 16 years and 71 days. In scoring in that game, he subsequently became the youngest ever scorer - a record that still stands.

During his time with the Glasgow club, he had loan spells at Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic, before joining Forest Green Rovers on a season long loan in September 2019.

He'd go on to score five times for the Gloucestershire outfit in 28 games, before joining Barnsley on a three-year deal in October 2020. He had two further loan spells at Stevenage and again at Forest Green.

Aitchison made 11 appearances in the claret and amber of Motherwell before his release at the end of last season.

"Jack is a player I've known for some time," Gary Caldwell said about his latest signing.

"He had a youth career at Celtic and I've seen his career progress and devleop. He fits the profile of what we want at the football club - he's hungry to develop - and he brings a lot of quality in a position we need competition in, given who has left.

"He'll bring goals as well. We worked hard to get him as he was wanted by a number of clubs, so we're delighted to bring him in.

"It wasn't an easy signing to complete - we had to sell the club to him and he had lots of other options."
