Stoppage time winner for Exeter City

The referee slipped over as well!

This game marked the first home game at St James Park for Gary Caldwell. What a test it was for the former FA cup winners team. Exeter City hosted Peterborough United who sat fourth place in the league going into this fixture. The grecians were twelfth heading into this match.

A one minute silence before kick-off, for remembrance day. A heartwarming atmosphere as all fans were on their feet in the due-course. All of the Exeter City players showed their respect by wearing a poppy armband during the game today.

The first 10 minutes of this game started equal, with both teams going heavy into challenges with fouls from both sides.

Exeter should have taken the lead as Jevani Brown had a big chance to capitalise on a Peterborough mistake. The ball fell to the City attacker, but his shot went just wide.

The Grecians were playing favourable football.

This continued as the defensive line from Exeter was monumental. Offside after offside for the Peterborough attackers thanks to the great defensive work.

The game became pretty even, as both teams created decent chances.

Exeter City player, Tim Dieng opened the scoring for the Grecians. A header from a Jevani Brown corner made sure Gary Caldwell's side took the lead in his first home match as manager.

Exeter’s tempo slowed following their goal, this poor-patch was capitalised by Peterborough as their player Clarke-Harris scored a screamer. A half volley from the edge of the box to deny Jamal Blackman.

Both teams went into the first half level, at one-all.

After a very late challenge on a Peterborough player, this resulted in a yellow card for Tim Dieng. It was given early into the second half.

Meanwhile, the referee brought some unfortunate amusement to the whole stadium, this is because he slipped over. Maybe it was the most interesting moment 20 minutes into the second half!

Exeter were lucky after a Peterborough corner, this was due to a great shot being blocked by Piercce Sweeney. Then Jamal Blackman got down low to thwart the power shot and to make sure the game stayed level going into the final ten minutes.

Constant pressure from the away side meant Peterborough took the lead, a volley from Clark gave City only five minutes of normal time to create a response.

A somewhat instant reply from the Grecians, Sam Nombe scored an equaliser and this gave City a handful of confidence going into stoppage time.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Jay Stansfield headed the ball down to Jevani Brown, who curled a wonderful shot into the top corner and scored the winning goal for Exeter City. A stunning comeback for the Grecians!

A great first home game in charge for manager Gary Caldwell. Exeter City are now in ninth in league one. They host Ipswich next weekend at St James Park.
