1,000+ women walk for Hospiscare in Exmouth

Pink ladies warm up before setting off into the twilight

£60,000 is likely to be raised in 'pink fizz' night out

Walking women are expected to have raised tens of thousands of pounds at one of Hospicare's most popular annual fundraisers, Exmouth's Twilight Walk.

It's the biggest such event yet, with more than a thousand ladies donning pink, adding a tutu or bunny ears and, in one of two case, enjoying a glass of something fizzy to help them on their way for the 5k or 10k walk.

Radio Exe's Ashley Jeary MC'd the annual event, in heat of around 25C. That placed such demand on water that reinforcements had to be called for.

The charity's CEO Glynis Atherton says: "It's fantastic to see such a large number of women coming together to have fun and raise money for Hospiscare. The money they'll raise tonight will help to pay for nurses on our in-patient unit where they work 24/7 to provide care for people in this area. That there's more than a thousand women here is amazing. We're just thrilled to bits."
