100,000 covid jabs given in Devon

Includes 10,000 second doses

By the time you read this, 100,000 coronavirus jabs will have been administered in Devon, according to figures released by the Conservative party in the south west.

In figures up to 20 January, 98,234 shots had been given to people in the county, which just over half - 46,469 were to people under the age of 80.

The government is aiming to offer first doses to everyone aged 70 and over by 15 February.

About one in eight of people who have received the vaccine (11,885) have already had their second dose. It's thought they should have more than 90 per cent protection against covid-19, although it is not yet know how long immunity lasts of whether immunised people can still transmit the disease. Most of those having completed the two-stage course - 10,234 people - are aged over 80.
