15-year-old Newton Abbot girl dies after taking drug

Drug dealer shouldn't be protected, say police

A teenage girl’s died in Newton Abbot after taking a psychoactive drug.

Police and paramedics rushed to three teenagers in Bakers Park in the town yesterday morning, but were unable to save a 15-year-old. Two others were released from hospital after check-ups.

A criminal investigation is underway to find the person who supplied the drugs - formally known as legal highs that were banned last year. The detective in charge of the case, Superintendent Ken Lamont says anyone who supplies substances to children isn’t someone others should protect. “There are many different brands of NPS’ out there," he adds, "but the one thing we have seen time and time again is no matter the brand, be it Spice or N-Bomb, these substances can kill and we have another tragic case on our hands. You don’t know what they contain, and you don’t know the reaction you may have; it could be fatal. I urge anyone considering taking NPS to think twice and reconsider.”

The girl who died hasn't yet been named (as at Sunday morning). Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported.
