Doddiscombleigh flock vanishes overnight on Wednesday
Thirty-two thousand pounds worth of sheep have been stolen from a village near Exeter. They were taken from a farm at Doddiscomeleigh between 6.30 pm on Wednesday and 12.30 pm on Wednesday.
Police haven't said how many sheep are invovled but at a rough price of £80 per animal, it's likely to be around 400, and would have needed several trips to take them away. It's not known how they were transported. Lame ewes were left behind.
Farmers are asked to be vigilant and check their stock more regularly.
Sheep-stealing was a capital offence in England until Georgian times. The last man to be hanged was butcher John Clark who went to the gallows in 1830, having been convicted of taking just two animals.
