Off-duty firefighters help at A38 crash

They see car hit bridge

Five people have been taken to hospital, two with serious injuries, following a crash on the A38 near Chudleigh on Sunday.

The collision involved only one vehicle.

Emergency services were called just after 4pm. Two off-duty firelighters who were passing the scene saw the vehicle hit a bridge and catch fire. They stopped and pulled passengers from the car. Two off-duty doctors also helped with first aid.

The road was closed in both directions for a time to allow emergency services to manage the scene but the northbound carriageway was reopened at around 6.15pm.

Police are asking for witnesses to the crash, and for anyone with dashcam footage that could help the investigation, to email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting log 646 of Sunday 27 June.
