Appeal after attempted knifepoint robbery

A 14-year-old boy suffered stomach wounds

There is an appeal for witnesses, after an attempted knifepoint robbery of a 14-year-old boy in Barnstaple.

It happened just before 8am yesterday morning [13 January] on the footpath between Ashleigh Road, Fort Street and Sunset Heights.

When the boy refused to give an older man money, he was attacked, causing stomach wounds. The man then fled the area.

The attacker has been described as a white male, aged between 50 and 60 years old, with scruffy grey hair no longer than an inch in length, thick grey eyebrows, with a mark on his cheek just under his eye.

He was wearing a black beanie hat, a black leather jacket with several pockets on the front, dark blue jeans which appeared dirty, and black running style shoes with white soles.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, along with those who have CCTV cameras attached to their business or residential properties in the area, particularly on Sunset Heights, to get in touch.

In addition, officers would like to hear from any drivers in the area who may have dash cam footage which could assist with their investigation.
