Arrests made at Cullompton after foreign nationals found in van

It's emerged that around 30 foreign nationals were in the back

Four men have been arrested after a van, with around 30 people in the back, was stopped by police at Cullompton services.

The van and another vehicle were stopped by officers on the M5 near J28 just after 9am and around 30 foreign nationals, believed to be Vietnamese, were located in the van.

Police say it’s linked to an incident in Cornwall this morning just before 7.10am – after reports that a group of people were seen getting into the back of a van from a boat.

Four men have been arrested charged under the Modern Day Slavery Act.

Three men have been taken into police custody. One of the men has been taken to hospital and remains under police guard.

The National Crime Agency, Border Force and Immigration Enforcement and other relevant partner agencies have been informed and are assisting police.

Enquires remain ongoing at this time in Newlyn and Cullompton.
