Devon diver Tom Daley gets medal too

A Devon boy who has raised nearly three-quarters of a million pounds for North Devon Hospice by sleeping in a tent for months on end is to be awarded a British Empire Medal.

Twelve-year-old Max Woosey is entering his third calendar year of sleeping outdoors. He took to passing the nights under canvass in memory of his neighbours, who were cared for by the hospice.

Max's adventures have captured the nation's hearts. He has met the prime minister. He has been thanked by England's rugby team. And now he is to become Max Woosey BEM, in recognition of his contribution to fundraising.

Also honoured in the latest list is Devon diver Tom Daley. The athlete won gold in last year's Tokyo Olympic Games. He becomes an Officer of the Order of the British Empire  - an OBE - for services to diving, LGBTQ+ rights and charity.
