Exmouth lifeboats were called out three times within three hours last night - including the rescue of a group of people who initially left a message on the lifeboat station's answerphone instead of dialling 999.
The four people were in a rigid inflatable which had broken down on the river Exe.
After waiting an hour from their original call, they did call the coastguard on the emergency number and were brought to safety by the inshore lifeboat.
The other calls were to a man who'd gone aground in the area near the Imperial recreation area - and reports of a jetskier in difficulty.
