Canary nicknamed Boris

The bird was found flying loose in Plymouth

A canary found flying loose in a Plymouth park has been named after the new Prime Minister - because of his bouffant of blond hair!

The yellow canary was found flying loose in a park on Saturday (3rd August) by a member of the public.

RSPCA animal collection officer Megan Higgins said: “The woman spotted the little canary and a budgie flying around the local park and knew they must be lost pets as they both had rings on their legs. She managed to catch the birds and took them home before calling us in. The budgie’s owner was quickly tracked down and reunited with their missing pet but, unfortunately, we’ve not been able to trace this sweet little canary’s owner.”

The little bird - with his tufty blond hair - is being cared for at the RSPCA’s Little Valley Animal Centre, in Exeter. He reminded them of new Prime Minister Boris Johnson so they’ve nicknamed him Boris.

The RSPCA is now hoping to trace his owner so he can be returned home.

Megan added: “Boris is such a friendly little bird and we’d love to reunite him with his owners who must be worried sick about him. If anyone recognises him or believe he may be theirs then please get in touch with our Little Valley Animal Centre or call our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
