Ski slope and Golf range will stay

Plans to demolish the former Clifton Hill sports centre and redeveloped the site to provide 42 new homes in the centre of Exeter have been approved.

Exeter City Living’s scheme to construct homes ‘of the highest quality and environmental standards’ on the site of the existing leisure centre, car parking area and adjacent rifle range building was almost unanimously approved by councillors.

They backed the officer recommendation for approval, with just one abstention, with work set to begin shortly of the redevelopment of the site.
Councillors heard that it was a scheme for a brownfield site within the urban area in a sustainable location close to a range of services, the proposal is acceptable in its design and general visual impact, including its impact on the Conservation Area and the Locally Listed Building and the development would make a positive contribution to the Council’s 5 year housing land supply.

The 42 new dwellings comprise a mix of 11 five-bed and 20 four-bed houses and 7 two-bed and 4 one-bed flats, and access through the site to the Ski Slope and Golf Driving Range will be maintained.

The approved proposals would see the front part of Clifton Hill on the sports centre site built out, but the ski slope, the golf driving range, and the green space would be protected.
