Could rail review see Exeter to Okehampton line opening again?

The railway line between Exeter and Okehampton could be reopened under Government proposals to undo some of the notorious closures during the 1960s.

The Government is to look at reviving railway routes which would provide good value for money and an economic boost for their areas.

The Exeter to Okehampton line, which is being considered as part of the review, would  provide a vital alterbative to the Dawlish line - which closes during storms and very high tides.

A public consultation has also been opened on splitting up the Great Western Railway franchise - with one part running regional services and another operating long-distance routes.
