South West Water is being called on to drop its plans to sell the Exmouth museum building, which it owns.
The museum's trustees have launched an appeal to raise the 130 thousand pounds needed to buy the building, along with extra money for renovations.
Councillor Eileen Wragg says South West Water doesn't need the money and should donate the building to the town.
South West Water say they do give community organisations financial support, but also sell redundant buildings to cut their costs and keep water bills as low as possible.
