Cyclist dies from collision injuries

A man's been released under investigation

A cyclist has died after a collision with a car in Exeter.

Emergency services were called to the junction with Barnfield Way on Western Way around 8.35pm on Saturday 7 August.

The collision involved a black BMW car and a woman on a pedal bike. The cyclist, a 53-year-old woman died in hospital on Monday 9 August.

Sergeant Keith Parkinson, of the Exeter Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “The BMW was travelling from the Paris Street roundabout direction when the collision occurred at the junction with Barnfield Road as the cyclist was crossing Western Way towards the Southernhay direction. 

“I am aware that this road was busy at the time and I am sure that someone would have witnessed what happened, but they have not yet come forward. I would urge them to please get in touch to help with our enquiries.

“I would also ask any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to please check their dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.”

A 21-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink/drugs.

He was later further arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation while enquires continue.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at the time, to come forward by contacting 101 with log 979 of 7 August 2021.
