Network Rail are upgrading the track

No trains will run on the Tarka Line between Crediton and Barnstaple for TWO weeks.

Network Rail will be upgrading the track between Saturday, October 26, and Friday, November 8, in order to provide a smoother, more comfortable journey and to improve reliability on the route.

But while the works are taking place, no trains will run in either direction between Crediton and Barnstaple and instead passengers will have to rely on rail replacement bus services.

GWR have issued travel advice to passengers urging them to check the times of buses before they travel as bus times will be different to train times and to allow more time for their journeys as buses will take longer than trains.

Here is all you need to know about the improvements to the Tarka Line.

Where is the work taking place?

Network Rail will be working at a number of sites between Crediton and Barnstaple.

What work is being done?

Brand new track will be installed, providing smoother journeys on the branch line.

Which services are affected?

  • all services between Crediton and Barnstaple
  • trains from Exmouth will terminate at Crediton

What route will the replacement buses use?

All replacement buses will use the A377 which passes most of the stations on the Tarka Line, except for Yeoford.
