Education chief calls for action on schools funding

Devon's lead education councillor is calling on the Government to bring forward reforms to schools funding.

A new formula-based approach is being introduced in stages - with schools receiving an extra 16 million pounds this year.

But James McInnis says it's not enough - and has written to the Education Secretary Nicky MOrgan asking her to put the reforms in place for the 2016 to 17 financial year - and not wait for the outcome of the General election.

In his letter he points out that Devon schools receive well below the national average when it comes to funding - and yet they're judged against national criteria and staff paid according to a national scale.
